THE KOREAN FOLKLORE MUSEUM

THE KOREAN FOLKLORE MUSEUM

THE KOREAN FOLKLORE MUSEUM
Famous Folklore Museum in Pyongyang
From the books introduction:

The Korean Folklore Museum is situated in Taedongmun-dong, Central District, Pyongyang, the capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The Korean people, a homogeneous nation, have a history of 5,000 years. They have created and developed unique customs suitable to the country's natural features and their living environments, peculiar feelings and tastes. The museum exhibits relics and materials showing the folklore traditions created by our forefathers.

The dear leader Comrade Kim Jong II said:
"Each nation has a folklore tradition which has been inherited and developed through generations. Our nation is an intelligent nation with a long history of five thousand years, and has created, inherited and developed its folklore traditions finer than those of other nations. To know well and value the long tradition of national culture and the customs of life of the ancestors is conducive to the cultivation of national pride and love for one's native place and the country.

The museum displays in seven rooms the relics which represent labour, handicraft, diet, clothing, housing, etiquette in the home, folk games and national arts from the primitive age to the 19th century.

This book introduces some typical relics exhibited in those rooms.
